The Results Are In!

The 2009 Bible Bowl season comes to an end with Sunset's competition. This was a special year for Sunset in that it celebrated its 25th Junior Bible Bowl competition. Special 25th anniversary silver medallions were given out to all of the 106 participants. And thanks to Lubbock Christian Univeristy for providing $500 scholarship certificates to the top three individual winners.

My NIV doesn't say that!

During this Bible Bowl season we learned that "Mary of Magdala" and "Mary Magdelene" are one in the same--it just depends on the copyright of your NIV!

Once upon a time there was apparently a discussion about revisions of the NIV and an agreement was reached to use only the post-1984 copyright of the NIV. However, this has not been much of an issue over the last few years and it has dropped from the forethought of coaches and quizmasters both.

To avoid the confusion and frustration of participants we want to re-establish the importance of using a standard version for teaching and quiz making. LTC rules state the following:

All questions will be drawn from the text of The Holy Bible, New International Version, Copyright 1973, 1978, and 1984 by International Bible Society. Any information in the text may be asked, and some questions may cover information from more than one verse.

Sunset and Hillcrest coaches have agreed to follow the LTC standard and use only post-1984 copyright versions of the NIV when creating questions for competition.
